Convergence of geriatrics and palliative care to deliver personalized supportive care for older adults with cancer
Article indépendant
Older adults with cancer represent the largest and most rapidly growing population of patients with cancer. The majority of new cancer diagnoses occur in individuals age 66 and older, and the geriatric oncology population accounts for nearly three fourths of cancer deaths. Compared with younger patients. older patients with cancer experience worse priival outcomes, po-tentially related to increased frailty, diminished functional status, and differences in treatment patterns. Notably, studies suggest that inadequate symptom management and insufficient delivery of supportive care may contribute to poor cinical outcomes for the geriatric oncology population. Thus. rigorous research is critically needed to help address the unique geriatric and palliative care reeds of older adults with cancer.
