International audience. The biologist R. Thomas has enounced a rule relating multistationnarity in a system of genes interacting in a single cell to the existence of a positive circuit in the regulatory graph. In this paper, we address the question of a similar rule for spatial differentiation. We consider the interactions of genes in several biological cells located on a 1-dimensional infinite grid, and we assume that the expression levels of genes are discrete. We show that the existence of a positive circuit is a necessary condition for a specific form of multistationnarity, which naturally corresponds to spatial differentiation.

Graphic requirements for multistability and attractive cycles in a Boolean dynamical framework

International audience. To each Boolean function f : {0, 1}^n → {0, 1}^n and each x ∈ {0, 1}^n, we associate a signed directed graph G(x), and we show that the existence of a positive circuit in G(x) for some x is a...

From multivalued to Boolean functions: preservation of soft nested canalization

Archive ouverte | Remy, Élisabeth | CCSD

Nested canalization (NC) is a property of Boolean functions which has been recently extended to multivalued functions. We study the effect of the Van Ham mapping (from multivalued to Boolean functions) on this property. We introdu...
