Expert meeting to develop a regional roadmap for palliative care in the Eastern Mediterranean region

Each year an estimated 40 million people globally need palliative care, 78% of whom live in low- and middle-income countries. Official country data from around the world shows that the WHO Eastern Mediterranean
Region (EMR) has the second lowest availability of palliative care services and is far below the global average on the availability of oral morphine, inclusion of palliative care in national health care policies, funding for palliative care, and access to palliative care services at the primary health care and community levels.
