Palliative care principles for the preoperative process

Although caring for patients with serious and life-limiting illness has always been a part of clinical medicine, the modem medical specialty of hospice and palliative care traces its roots to the middle of the last century. In 1967. Dame Cicely Saunders established St. Christopher's Hospice in London, which subsequently served as a paradigm for hospice care globally. In 1974. Dr Balfour Mount introduced the term "palliative care"1. Formal recognition as a medical specially was achieved subsequently. with "Palliative Medicine" attaining specialty status in the United Kingdom in 1987. In 2008. the American Board of Medical Specialties granted full specialty status to 'Hospice and Palliative Medicine." [Début de l'article]
