La théorie de l'attachement est une approche développée pour comprendre la formation et le maintien des relations interpersonnelles ainsi que sentiment de sécurité qui y est relié. Elle est utilisée ici pour analyser les difficultés avec des patients en fin de vie. Des études de cas permettent de décrire différentes situations relatives aux problèmes qui se présentent entre ces malades, leurs aidants naturels, les équipes soignantes dont les médecins.
