Une dame de 63 ans, atteinte d'un cancer du poumon en phase terminale, qui avait écrit un ordre "Ne pas réanimer", a été sérieusement blessée dans un accident de voiture. La famille de cette personne et l'hôpital qui la prenait en charge étaient en conflit sur l'utilisation de l'ordre "Ne pas réanimer". A partir de cette étude de cas, les auteurs analysent la décision de la cour d'appel qui a été rendue en s'appuyant sur la Convention européenne des Droits de l'Homme.
