Cette étude analyse rétrospectivement l'utilisation de la chimiothérapie chez les patients qui sont morts d'un cancer avancé, soit après avoir été pris en charge dans l'Unité d'oncologie médicale de l'Hôpital de l'Université de Bologne en Italie, soit après avoir été aidé dans leur maladie en phase terminale par le Bologna Oncological Hospice at Home. L'étude suggère qu'il est urgent de définir des lignes directrices pour l'utilisation appropriée de la chimiothérapie chez les patients atteints de cancer avancé avec une espérance de vie courte.
