Les études de soins en fin de vie font face à des difficultés associées au recrutement et l'usure de l'échantillon. Les auteurs analysent donc les données sur le recrutement et les efforts de maintien utilisées dans un essai clinique d'intervention de communication sur la fin de vie qui impliquent les patients Afro-américains sous dialyse et leur personne de confiance. Les stratégies et les procédures utilisées dans cette étude peuvent être pertinentes pour d'autres études qui impliquent des Afro-américains souffrant de maladie grave et requièrent une participation dyadique.
