En 1998, le Wellington Public Hospital (Nouvelle-Zélande) a ouvert un service de soins palliatifs. Après douze mois de fonctionnement, une évaluation sous forme de questionnaire a été effectuée auprès de professionnels de santé de cet hôpital ; elle les interrogeait sur les effets de la présence de cette unité de soins palliatifs à différents niveaux : prise en charge des patients, de leurs familles, et conséquences sur le personnel hospitalier.
