En 1995, le commerce mondial de marchandises a franchi le seuil symbolique des 5000 milliards US$. La croissance rapide du commerce international constitue l'une des manifestations du mouvement de mondialisation, mais elle est loin d'être la seule. Après un rappel des travaux les plus marquants qui ont conduit à l'émergence du concept de mondialisation, la première partie de cet article est consacrée à la mesure du phénomène de mondialisation de l'économie agroalimentaire sous toutes ses formes. La deuxième partie s'attache à la mise en évidence des facteurs principaux qui expliquent les évolutions observées et à l'identification des principaux acteurs qui en sont la cause.. In 1995, the world trade of commodities has passed the symbolic 5 trillion US$ mark. The rapid growth of the international trade constitutes only one expression of the globalization movement, yet it is far from being its sole expression. After reminding the most outstanding publications having led to the emergence of the globalization concept, the first part of this paper is devoted to the measurement of the globalization of the agro-food economics phenomenon at large, laying stress on the importance of the phenomenon and on the swiftness with which it is operated.
