International audience. Periodontal diseases are very prevalent chronic diseases worldwide. United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published that over 50% of people aged over 30 years suffered from periodontitis. 1 It is now recognized that chronic inflammatory conditions which characterize periodontal diseases share comparable etiological patterns and risk factors with others systemic diseases such as endocrine or metabolic disorders and inflammatory diseases. 2 Periodontal diseases were also described to have potential repercussions on physiopathological conditions such as cardiovascular diseases and also adverse pregnancy outcomes. 3 Despite links with systemic conditions and an increasing prevalence, the pathogenic processes involved in the initiation of these diseases are not
