International audience. Six inpi'oved mulberry, genotypes S36, Viswa, Si, 51635, S799 and M5 are grown at the maincampus of the KSSRDI, Bangalore. Moulting and rearing parameters observed from six trials showsignificant differences among the genotypes at 1% probability level. Silkworm mace VB4D2 of 18. monlarvae/i'd on the leaves of S36, SI and 51635 genotypes showed significantly higher larval weightand mnoulting ratio hot/i during first and second instar than larvae fed on M5 genotype. Oft/ic sixmulberry genotypes. 51635 performed better in /bur rearing parameters Out ofseven. The correlationcoe/jIcients between the nutritional components of mulberry leaves and muoulting ratio show thathigher leaf water content (LWC), leaf water retention (LWR), total chlorophyll, total soluble sugars, soluble proteins and total nitrogen contents will be required considera bly mnorefrrfirst instar larvae, compared to the second instar larvae. Also, higher levels of L WC, total soluble sugars, solubleproteins, total chlorophyll and L J'VR resulted in decreased larval duration and increased larvalweight, effective rate of rearing (ERR) by weight, cocoon weight, shell weight and shell ratio. Thisinformation can be utilised effectively in breeding pro grams to develop desirable mnulbermy genotlpes.
