International audience. B9.12.1 is a monoclonal antibody specific for a monomorphic determinant of human MHC class I molecules. It is currently used for cell typing and is useful for targeting infection of human cells by murine ecotropic retroviruses. We have cloned and expressed it in the form of a single-chain variable fragment (ScFv) that recognizes the same epitope as the parental antibody. Through genetic engineering, this ScFv may be used for developing new cell-typing probes and new retroviral targeting approaches.
