International audience. Since 40 years, it is known that omega-3 poly-unsaturated fatty acids (ω3 PUFAs) have cardioprotective effects. These include antiarrhythmic effects, improvements of autonomic function, endothelial function, platelet anti-aggregation and inflammatory properties, lowering blood pressure, plaque stabilization and reduced atherosclerosis. However, recently, conflicting results regarding the health benefits of ω3 PUFAs from seafood or ω3 PUFAs supplements have emerged. The aim of this review is to examine recent literature regarding health aspects of ω3 PUFAs intake from fish or supplements, and to discuss different arguments/reasons supporting these conflicting findings.
