L'audit révèle qu'il y a des indications claires pour l'utilisation d'antibiotiques pour tous les patients. La majorité des patients montre une réponse symptomatique à l'utilisation d'antibiotiques. Cette utilisation est rationnelle et n'est pas excessive. Les recommandations pour l'utilisation d'antibiotiques en fin de vie incluent (1) une documentation claire sur les indications et les objectifs de soins conformes aux voeux du patient, (2) la possibilité de guider empiriquement l'utilisation d'antibiotiques, et (3) l'évaluation et l'arrêt des antibiotiques quand leur utilisation n'est plus en accord avec les objectifs de soins.
