Dance-mediated groups in child psychiatry: Thought is also born from movement
Archive ouverte

Dance allows for the creation of a particular treatment space where the patient, as well as the therapist, is involved in a holistic way. In an outpatient adolescent psychiatric service, the caregivers question the transferential, relational, and emotional issues that dance brings to the fore in group therapy. Two cases will trace the evolution of two young people followed over three years. One describes how what happens in the body is verified in the psyche by (re)building narcissistic foundations, and by welcoming, then transforming, a movement that is a sign. The other allows us to share the intimacy of group sessions through the evolution of a teenager who succeeded in seizing this treatment space to transform her relationship to her own body but also to the world around her.
