French Scientific Committee on Desertification. CSFD was founded in 1997 to provide support for the French Ministries in charge of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD). CSFD is striving to involve the French scientific community, especially on an international level, to guide and advise policymakers and stakeholders associated in this combat.CSFD includes a score of members and a President, who is the French scientific and technical agent for the Convention. They are appointed by the Ministry for Higher Education and Research and come from various specialities of the main relevant institutions and universities. CSFD's operating budget is financed by contributions from the French Ministries of Foreign and European Affairs and for Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing, and the French Development Agency.
