Structural and magnetic properties of FIB-irradiated microstructures on a Pt/Co multilayer

International audience. An analysis of structural and magnetic properties of focused ion beam (FIB)-irradiated microstructures on a Pt/Co multilayer were studied using transmission electron microscopy, optical and magneto-optical microscopy. Irradiation by a focused Ga+ ion beam can be used to adjust the magnetic properties of the multilayer locally. The results showed that Ga+ ion irradiation modifies drastically the thickness, texture, microstructure and magnetic properties of a Pt/Co multilayer.
