International audience. Several chemical and biological tests on 39 species, belonging to 6 genera of the Cunoniaceae from New-Caledonia, reveal their bioactive potentiality. Some of them gave very interesting results, such as antibiotic activities, cytotoxic effects on a cancerous cell line, inhibition effects on two enzymes (elastase, xanthine oxydase), and also toxic effects on a cold blooded animal, Artemia salina. Chemical assays showed that all the tested plants contain tannins, flavonoids, quinones, triterpenes and/or steroids but no alkaloids. Acsmithia's species also have high concentrations of saponins. A thorough characterisation of the active principles is actually being carried out. .
