International audience. Size of reference population for genomic prediction can limit the increase of accuracy for small populations.Multi-country evaluation can overcome this limit but requires prerequisites such as pedigree connectednessand small genetic distances between populations. Within the SMARTER project, pedigree informationand genotypes on SNP50 BeadChip of Alpine and Saanen dairy goats from Canada, France, Italy andSwitzerland were shared. Pedigrees analyses have shown unilateral exchanges of animals with flows fromFrance to other countries. Analyses of genotypes revealed a genetically closely related population betweenFrance and Italy for both Saanen and Alpine breed. On the opposite, Canadian populations showed thelargest differences with European populations. There is connectedness between the different populationsincluded in the project and the genetic distance between populations seems suitable for testing a multi-country genomic evaluation
