Since 2002, Mauritania has gradually introduced an original prepayment scheme, the obstetrical risk insurance scheme, based on voluntary enrolment with the aim of covering care related to pregnancy and childbirth. The impact evaluation of this package shows that a voluntary prepayment system targeting pregnant women can improve the use of health services during pregnancy and childbirth. .
