Ciguatera Fish Poisoning is a form of ichtyosarcotoxismcaused by the consumption of tropical coral reef fishes thathave accumulated ciguatoxins, neurotoxins produced bydinoflagellates of the genus Gambierdiscus. Ciguatera isprevalent worldwide in subtropical and tropical regionsand is regarded as the most prevalent form of intoxicationin French Polynesia.
