Contact: andrianarisoak@yahoo.fr. National audience. The agroforestry system is a system which combines trees and crops on the same land. In a 10 years old intercropped plantation of hybrid walnut (Juglans regia x nigra), Mulia and Dupraz (2006) showed that due to the competition with winter crops, trees developed deeper root. These deep roots may intercept leached N (Jose et al., 2000) and increase the organic matter input in deeper horizons through their turnover. This supply of additional organic matter, combined with the presence of a fluctuating watertable, may change the pattern of the soil N mineralization and the organic matter decomposition along soil profile. The aim of this study was to highlight the impact of the introduction of hybrid walnut trees in arable system on the N dynamic in the presence of a fluctuating watertable.
