International audience. Upon X-ray irradiation, lanthanide transfers visible energy to a photosensitizer, leading to local reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and triggering photodynamic therapy (PDT), even in deep tumors. The proposed nanolipoparticles, which contain both lanthanides and photosensitizer molecules, offer new opportunities in therapy and diagnosis.
