International audience. This contribution summarizes prominent features of the Level 2 algorithm aimed at processing land surface geophysical quantities from the ESA-led SMOS mission. It emphasizes the soil moisture retrieval and describes the decision tree built in order to select appropriate retrieval configurations. The expected performance is illustrated by preliminary results of the algorithm validation.
